"A Dangerous Fire" |
sermon audio: |
Here's what happened May 15 , 2005:
- We celebrated Pentecost, the day the Holy Spirit came down as tongues of fire (Acts 2:1-12).
- We talked about how we somtimes see the Holy Spirit as gentle and comforting, forgetting that the Spirit comes as fire, too.
- We thought about how the Holy Spirit calls each of us to step into that fire - to experience the burning away of what used to be important in our lives and to experience the passion of following God.
- We acknowledged that following the Spirit into that fire can be painful and difficult. When God called Moses from the burning bush, Moses said, "Who am I that I should go?" In other words, Moses said, "Why me? Why now? Why this fire?" God did not answer any of those questions. God merely answered, "I will be with you." God doesn't tell us why we are called into the fire, only that He will go with us.
- We sang "Holy Spirit, Rain Down" as a prayer, asking the Spirit to fall on us.
- We shared communion together in the presence of the risen Christ.
- We heard Fusion 112 play the Sara Groves song, "Jeremiah" (mp3) , based on Jeremiah 20:7-9.
- Instead of Act(s) II, we had a reception and celebrated Pastor Laura's ordination!
