"What's Next?"
Pastor Laura Guy
February 14, 2010
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We saw our traveler reach what she thought was the end of her journey, only to discover that beyond the journey to Jesus is a journey with Jesus. We continue on because Jesus is now our friend (John 15:14-16), and we want to spend the rest of our lives getting to know him better.
- We looked at Pastor Laura's seminary degree, her Masters of Divinity. She joked that this meant she had mastered all things divine; it was her finish line. In reality, she has spent the years since graduation continuing to learn and study and ask questions.
- We thought about how almost every profession requires us to learn new things, get more training. We expect our lives to include more education - except sometimes when it comes to our faith. Then we think that we already know the basics, and we don't really need to learn anything more.
- We realized that we must move toward full maturity, what John Wesley called Christian Perfection. This is our goal, our job. We must journey with Jesus until we can truly say we have the mind of Christ, loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength and loving our neighbor as ourselves.
- We prayed for God to guide our feet on the path of faith, the path toward full maturity.
- We celebrated communion around the table of love.
