"Who or What Is in Charge of My Life?"
Rev. Dawn Weaks
January 24, 2010
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We heard guest preacher, Dawn Weaks, share a story about her neighbor Stacey. Even though Dawn had befriended Stacey for 3 years, when Stacey decided to go to church one Easter, she asked where Dawn went to church. Stacey had no idea that Dawn was a pastor because Dawn had never told her or invited her to church.
- We thought about what it means to turn over control of our lives to God. It's difficult for a seeker to understand that concept, and it's difficult for believers to live it out. What would happen if we turned our lives over to God and let God direct us to people who need to hear that they are loved?
- We heard another story about a man who rarely came to church with his wife. When Dawn sent him an email inviting him, he immediately replied, "No." But then he replied again saying, "All I know about faith is from the scriptures I looked up from Tim Tebow's eye paint. Will I be out of place at church?" Dawn assured him he would be welcome.
- We remembered the people of Haiti, how their faith has held strong in the face of disaster. Even when everything around them has crumbled, Jesus is still Lord. Who do we know that needs to hear that message?
- We celebrated communion around the table of hope.
