"David and Bathsheba"
Pastor Laura Guy

Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We read how it all began, the unraveling of David's character, in 2 Sam. 11:1-5.
- We heard the rest of the story, how one sin led to another. David tried to cover up their affair by having Uriah come home and sleep with his wife. But even drunk, Uriah did the honorable thing and would not return home. David believed the only way out of his situation was to make sure that Uriah was killed in battle. He even had Uriah carry his own death order back to his commanding officer.
- We saw how Nathan the prophet told David a story of a rich man with many sheep who took the only sheep of a poor man. David was outraged at the man's behavior until Nathan says, "You are the man!" Realizing his sin, David acknowledges that he has sinner before God. Nathan assures him that God hears his confession and forgives him. Psalm 51 captures David sorrow.
- We thought about the two great lessons from this story: That character can unravel at any moment if we allow ourselves to loiter up on rooftops - places where we're not supposed to be. And that God can forgive, even sins as great as David's.
- We prayed that we would have the character of Christ, and that God would forgive our sins.
- We celebrated communion at the table of love.
