"Who Is the Holy Spirit?"
Pastor Laura Guy

Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We thought about why the Holy Spirit doesn't get much attention. To really understand the Spirit, we needed to try to understand the Trinity. There aren't any Bible verses that speak specifically of the Trinity, but Jesus did give us the basis for the idea in Matt. 28:18-20 - the Great Commission - when he told us to baptize new followers in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
- We remembered ways that people have tried to portray the Trinity - an apple, an egg, a triangle. Artists have often painted the Trinity as two men (Father and Son) and a dove. This can lead to the impression that the Spirit is a thing - without a will or emotion. But the Spirit is a person within the Holy Trinity.
- We realized that the problem with all the ways we portray the Trinity is that they are static. An early Greek word that described the way the Trinity works is perichoresis. The center of the word - chor - is the same root of the word choreography. The Trinity - Father, Son and Spirit - dance within and around one another in a dance of love. The Spirit is the one who calls us into the dance.
- We prayed in silence, listening for the Spirit to speak to us.
- We celebrated communion at the table of Christ's brokenness and our wholeness.
