"The Scariest Story in the Bible"
Abby Olson
July 26, 2009
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- Guest preacher Abby Olson continued the "Strange Story" series with what she considers to be the scariest story in the Bible.
- We heard about something Rob Bell said in his book "Velvet Elvis". He talked about what it meant to be a disciple in Jesus' day. Boys would have to "audition" in order to be able to study with a rabbi for years, following in his steps to learn from him. So when Jesus called Peter to be his disciple, it was as if Jesus was telling him "You're good enough to follow me."
- We read Acts 9:36-43 - how Peter raised Tabitha from the dead. We don't know what to do with the story of a disciple who could raise people from the dead. Peter had faith that God would work through him because he followed what Jesus taught him.
- We wondered what would happen if we used the gifts God has given us, moving beyond doubt.
- We prayed for God to work through our doubts.
- We celebrated communion at the table of Christ's brokenness and our wholeness.
