"The Lord's Prayer: Thy Kingdom Come, Thy Will Be Done"
Pastor Laura Guy
January 25, 2009
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We sang an new/old version of the Lord's Prayer. Anyone who lived through the 70s remembers the singing nun who taught this prayer to a generation by setting it to music.
- We thought about what the word "kingdom" means. In human terms, it can mean a place ruled by cruel dictator. But when we use the term to describe God's kingdom, we are talking about the world God created - a world without sickness, hunger, hate or death. This is the same world that God is restoring and will someday completely restore. In Jesus, God's kingdom breaks through into our lives and into our world in glimpses of things so beautiful, they take our breath away.
- We recognized that when we pray, "Thy Kingdom come", we're asking God to bring that kingdom, that beauty, into our lives. That can only happen when we allow God to sit on the throne of our hearts. In the same way, "Thy will be done" is turning over control of our lives to God.
- We prayed the Lord's Prayer together.
- We celebrated communion at the table of love and reconciliation.
