"Bringing Peace to Our Future"
Pastor Laura Guy
December 28, 2008
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We thought about all the things we have to fear as we look into the future - economic uncertainty, disease, pain, grief and death. But the good news is that God does not intend us to live in fear about these things. God wants us to have peace as we face the future.
- We read Phil 4:4-9 where Paul talks about how we can experience the peace of God that transcends all understanding. The first thing Paul says is that we must find a way to rejoice no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in. Paul understood how difficult this was since he wrote the letter while sitting in jail, possibly facing his own death. The early Christians also understood how to find this peace while they faced execution by the Roman government.
- We realized that the kind of peace is not an instant peace. It is developed over a lifetime of learning to trust God and walk with God. It is developed as we spend time in worship, service and study week after week, year after year.
- We asked God to help us grow into people who experience that kind of peace, whatever the future holds.
- We celebrated communion at the table of love and reconciliation.
