"Believing the Unbelievable"
Pastor Laura Guy
June 15, 2008
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We continued our summer sermon series of Old Testament stories by looking at the story of the call of Abraham in Genesis 12:1-9 and Genesis 15:1-7 .
- We realized that, with the beginning of chapter 12, the biblical narrative is taking a new direction. Now, instead of God working with humanity as a whole, God is choosing to work through a people, starting with the man Abraham. God promises a new child, a new land and a new nation. When God tells Abraham to "Go", Abraham obeys because he believes that God can do these miraculous things.
- We saw that, years later, Abraham is getting tired of waiting. He begins to wonder if God will do what He has promised. God reassures him that the promise is still true, and He reminds Abraham that He is on the journey with him.
- We heard how the story of Living Water Christian Church has some similarities to the story of Abraham. God told us to "Go" to Parkville, and like Abraham, we have sometimes wondered if God knows what He is doing. But the faces we see in worship, the lives that have been transformed, the baptisms we celebrate are all examples of how God has been with us on the journey the whole time.
- We prayed that God would show each of us where we are to "go", and that we would have the faith of Abraham to follow where God leads.
- We shared communion at the table of love.
