"What I Know for Sure"
Pastor Laura Guy
August 5, 2007
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We thought about what the phrase "What I Know For Sure" means. When Oprah asks her guests what they know for sure, she means what do they know in their innermost being because life's experiences have shown them beyond a doubt that this is true.
- We remembered that one of the first things we are taught to "know for sure" is that Jesus loves us. In the song we even sing, "Jesus loves me, this I KNOW."
- We heard Pastor Laura reflect on what God has been recently trying to teach her, what she now knows for sure - worship isn't enough. She told us how, as a new church pastor, she has been focusing most of her time and energy on worship, on getting people through the door and having a positive encounter with God in the worship service. But God has shown her that true growth and true community can only happen when people share their lives in a small group.
- We saw how we can only grow as individuals, and as a church, when we are willing to invest more of our lives, more of ourselves, into a small community. This is where our faith is stretched and molded and refined, and this is where other people become the hands, feet and face of Jesus to us.
- We prayed that God would nudge us to step out and try a small group, choosing from one of the three being offered at Living Water, or signing up for another time when we can meet.
- We shared communion around the table of love.
