"Message in Song"
Bob Jenkins
July 8, 2007
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We heard Bob Jenkins, a Kansas City area singer-songwriter and four-time winner of KCCM's Christian Songwriter/Folk Artist of the year, share a message in song and word.
- Bob talked about his own history with substance abuse and his work as a 12-step counselor.
- He shared how Jesus counseled the Rich Young Man in Matt. 19:16-22. The Rich Young Man needed a 12-step program, particularly the first three steps: to admit he was powerless over his situation, to recognize that God could restore sanity to his life, and to conciously decide to rely on God to help him.
- Unfortunately, the Rich Young Man didn't act on the wise counsel Jesus gave because Jesus asked him to do the one thing he was totally unwilling to do.
- Bob urged us all to seek out and act upon Godly counsel. Too often we fail to follow through on the good counsel we receive.
- We shared communion around the table of love.
