"Body of Christ - Live It!"
Pastor Laura Guy
July 1, 2007
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We heard from Raccoon John Smith about the Last Will and Testament of the Springfield Presbytery. When one of our founders, Barton Stone, realized that his newly-formed presbytery had become just another Christian faction, he and others signed a document saying that they willed "that this body die, and sink into union with the Body of Christ at large."
- We remembered how Paul gave us the image of the body of Christ in 1 Cor. 12:12-31. He reminds us that we are all called to contribute our gifts to the body. None of us can be a Christian by ourselves. He also reminds us that we are called to live and serve with other Christians, even when we don't always agree with them.
- We thought about what was at stake - why is Christian unity so important? There are over 2 billion Christians in the world. If those 2 billion people all decided to band together and serve the world in Christ's name, what good could be accomplished? Perhaps poverty could be wiped out forever...
- We sang the song, "They'll Know We Are Christians by Our Love" as a prayer. May the day soon come when the world will recognize us as Christians because of the way that we love!
- We shared communion around the table of love.
- We had our first-ever baptism service!
