"Highly Combustible"
Pastor Laura Guy
May 27, 2007
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We heard the story of the first Pentecost read from Acts 2:1-12.
- We thought about how that Pentecost was like a makeover. The before picture showed us the followers of Jesus huddled together inside, afraid of venturing outside. But then the Holy Spirit came down, and the after picture shows us the CHURCH - followers of Jesus out in the streets proclaiming the Gospel.
- We realized that God created us, the Church, to be highly combustible people, capable of catching that same flame of the Spirit so that we, too, would carry the Gospel message outside of our buildings.
- We heard the story of Living Water, where we have come from and where we are headed. From the very beginning, this church was prayerfully created to be one of highly combustible people, allowing the Holy Spirit to set us on fire as we carry the living water to the world (the Kingdom of God is the only place where holy fire and living water don't cancel each other out!).
- We prayed that God would continue to set us on fire.
- We shared communion together, remembering our brothers and sisters around the world who share it with us.
- During Act(s) II, we had a party to celebrate our birth-day, and we signed a birth certificate as witnesses to what God is doing.
