"Why Do People Need This Church?"
Pastor Laura Guy
April 29, 2007
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We heard that there are over 700 churches in the Kansas City area, and most of them have plenty of room for anyone who would like to join them. So why did God call us to start yet another church?
- We thought about how people who have already made the commitment to make church a part of their lives can find a church to attend fairly easily. There are lots of good ones out there. But people who have never been to church have a difficult time finding a place where they can feel comfortable and welcomed, and where they can bring their tough questions with them.
- We read selections from John 4 - the guiding Scripture for our church - and saw how Jesus was able to offer his living water to the woman only after he reached out to her with acceptance. We must offer his living water to others in the same spirit. We also saw how the woman ran to tell others and how they came to meet Jesus for themselves. This is the way our church should also spread the Good News.
- We heard from Matt, a previously non-churched person, who explained his journey to faith and to Living Water. Matt shared how he was leery of churches and Christians, but coming to Living Water felt comfortable, and he experienced the presence of God speaking powerfully to him.
- We realized that, as we grow, it will become tempting to say that we have enough people and we can stop working so hard to attract more of them. But there are hurting people who need the relaxing, welcoming atmosphere of Living Water to find their own way to God, and we need to make sure there is always room for them.
- We celebrated communion around the table of love.
- We had fun in our tasters classes during Act(s) II.
