"Jesus Who Heals"
Pastor Laura Guy
March 12, 2006
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We heard Mark 5:21-43, the story of Jesus healing two daughters, one interrupted by the other.
- We noticed how Mark lets us, the audience, in on what is really happening. He lets us know the thoughts of the bleeding woman, something even Jesus did not know before she spoke. This puts us right in the middle of the action, not standing at a distance as a casual observer, but right there close enough to see the compassion in Jesus' eyes.
- We realized that this passage shows us Jesus' strength and power - other powerful men sought him out and he was able to heal and even reverse death - yet he had time to heal a woman whose disease was not life-threatening, but still caused her great pain.
- We saw that this is the Jesus Mark wants us to meet, a Jesus with greatness and power, and yet time and compassion for hurts that are small, too.
- We prayed that God would help us know this Jesus more so that we could love him more.
- We celebrated communion together in the presence of this powerful and compassionate Jesus.
