"Fight the Good Fight"
Pastor Laura Guy
February 5, 2006
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We read from 1 Timothy 6:11-16 where Paul encourages Timothy to "fight the good fight of the faith."
- We considered whether Paul really thought the Christian life was like a boxing match. Couldn't he have compared the life of a Christ-follower to a garden or song or construction project - something less violent?
- We heard Pastor Laura tell us about a time recently when she felt like she was in the ring, being used as a punching bag (in the spiritual sense), and how the words of the Sara Groves song, "Boxer", reminded her that her strength doesn't come from within herself.
- We realized that sometimes the Christian life does feel like a fight, a fight against our own doubts and insecurities, as well as a fight against anything else that tries to stand in the way of God's Kingdom.
- We prayed that God would forgive us for the times we failed to step into the ring, and give us the strength to see our fights through to the end.
- We received forgiveness and reconcilation at the communion table.
