LISTEN "Lost and Found"
Candlelight Christmas Eve
Pastor Laura Guy
December 24, 2005
Here's an instant replay of what happened in worship:
- We sang our favorite Christmas carols to welcome the Christ child.
- We saw a film of the Christmas story from the accounts in the Gospels of Luke and Matthew.
- We read another story of Christmas, the parable of the lost coin in Luke 15:8-10.
- We saw how the woman in the parable searched everywhere for her lost coin, including under the couch among the dust bunnies and cobwebs. Eventually, she needed to get a light so she could really see what she was looking for.
- We heard how God is like that woman, looking for lost coins like ourselves. But in order for God to look among the dust bunnies and cobwebs, He needed a light. So He sent a light - Jesus, the light of the world. And with that light, God continues to look under couches and in sewers and on railroad tracks for lost coins so He can bring them into the light and polish them and treasure them. Whenever a lost coin is found, there is a party in heaven with all the angels.
- We asked ourselves if we want to live our lives hiding under the couch, or if we're ready to be found by the light of the world.
- We shared communion, celebrating the gift of Jesus.
- We passed the light from person to person as we lit our candles, singing Silent Night.
