Living Water people serve food at Micah

Jesus was all about giving his living water away.  From the very beginning, Living Water Christian Church has made outreach and service a part of who we are.  It’s not a program tacked on to the calendar so it looks like the church cares.  It’s part of our DNA.

Micah Ministry

From the beginning Living Water has adopted one main, ongoing service project – the Micah Ministry at Independence Boulevard Christian Church.  The Micah Ministry is a holistic ministry that operates on Monday nights.  The story of how it got started is amazing.  This once prosperous church (they used to have 1,000 people in Sunday School and their building had an indoor pool!), found itself in the heart of the inner city, with crime and homelessness on all sides.  The small, aging congregation decided that God was calling them to a new kind of ministry.  So they rolled up their sleeves, unlocked their doors, and started serving a hot meal on Monday nights to whomever wanted to come.  The first night they had about 9 people.

Now they serve dinner to almost 500 people every Monday.  But it’s not just about food.  They also offer aLiving Water people sort clothes at Micah clothes closet.  And GED classes.  And free legal help.  And AA meetings.  And children’s activities.  And a worship service for women in a domestic violence shelter.  And…

You get the picture.  Living Water has a heart for this vital ministry, so the fourth Monday of every month is Micah night.  You're invited to go with others from Living Water - ask about carpooling at 5 pm, or drive yourself and arrive by 5:30.  Once there, you'll be put to work doing whatever is most needed: serving food, giving out clothes, or even providing child care.  You never know what will happen, but you will always experience the presence of Christ among the people who come in.  It’s not about a wealthy suburban congregation helping out the poor urban church with their food kitchen.  It’s about putting yourself in a position to serve others, just like Jesus did.  And when you really humble yourself to that extent, you'll discover that you have as much to learn from the folks who come in as you have to teach them.

If you’re someone who likes to give something back, then get plugged in to Living Water.  It's all about giving yourself away.
